The Aquaponics Wiki

The aim of this wiki is to provide detailed information about aquaponics in all its forms. This wiki is maintained by members of the Backyard Aquaponics discussion forum and contains contributions by forum members as well as other members of the public.

This page will ultimately be filled with very basic information about aquaponics with reference to subjects like grow bed, siphons, cycling, fish, plant, member systems etc. As you well know, the subject matter is almost limitless.

What's a Wiki

If you are new to the idea of a wiki, you can find some information about them here. Please check out the sample page. This will give you an idea about the different possibilities for page layouts and formatting. The whole idea of a wiki is to have information constantly cross-referenced and easy to find. It's very easy to expand the content of wiki pages information, and adding a new page to start a new topic is incredibly simple.

This Wiki and the BYAP forum

Some people from the discussion forum have already put a fair amount of work into getting this thing started, especially B2Barker. My ultimate goal in setting up this wiki is to try and sieve out some of the incredibly valuable information that's contained within the discussion forum, and get that information onto here, so that information can be found simply and reliably in a useful format.

Of course this is an enormous task as we've realised from the humble beginnings found here. Here's where you come in. If you find useful information on the forum please feel free to copy it from the forum and insert it into this website. There are already a fair few pages that have been made and you can view these by searching all the pages on the wiki.

How to join in

You will need to register before you can edit pages. This is a simple process, and if possible please use your forum login name for registration here so that people know who you are. If you feel unsure about how wiki editing works, you can play around on the sandbox page.

Please think carefully about titles for new pages that you create, and check the list of all pages to be sure that a similar page doesn't already exist. If you have any general queries you can post on the forum discussion thread. If you have queries regarding a particular page on this wiki, there's a "discussion" button at the top of every page where you can make comments or ask questions about that particular page.

Where to now

This is a project for "the people", by "the people", it offers everyone a chance to be involved in something special, something that will grow to become THE place for aquaponic information, and each and every one of you can play an important role in helping others learn about aquaponics.
